Moravian folded stars? See here for directions: http://www.highhopes.com/3dstar.html
If you have old tube socks, you can cut off the foot. Tie one end of the remaining sock firmly shut, then fill with rice. Tie string around about halfway up, to divide the rice filled tube into two sections - you're on your way to making a snowman. Use scraps of fabric as a scarf (tie around the twine separating the two parts), paint on buttons and features or glue on old buttons. Make a hat to cover the top closure.

Oops - forgot to say that after filling with rice you need to tie the bottom shut before putting the string around to make two sections!
